Making your own seating cards

While I was browsing through Martha Stewart the other day I stumbled upon these charming seating card ideas. Many of these would be easy DIY projects and fairly inexpensive. I love the seashell cards and the wooden leaves. How cute would those be for a beach wedding and a fall wedding?! Many of these can be done by just printing on card stock or if you or any of your friends or family have good penmanship you can enlist their help! Are you making your own seating cards for your wedding?

Garden weddings

Planning a garden wedding can be lots of fun. A garden setting offers one of the most romantic and sensual locations for celebrating your special day. Remember to keep it simple and elegant. Below you will find ideas on how to achieve the ultimate garden wedding of your dreams.

When planning a garden wedding, a good wedding idea is to employ live music rather than recorded. Open air is ideal for musical instruments and can add to the whimsical quality of the day. Consider an acoustic guitar, harp or violin.

Another thing that you ought to give particular attention to when planning a garden wedding party is your garden wedding cake. To avoid the risk of getting them all messed up and ruining your investment and your wedding in the process, the cake for a garden wedding should be placed inside the tent, securely propped on a sturdy table. By doing this, you can protect your outdoor wedding cake from the heat of the sun, rain, or from birds flying up above.

One of the factors that can truly make your garden wedding look nice is lighting (if it takes place during the evening of course). A nice layout of lights can bring a whole different mood to your wedding. It can add elegance or even a feeling of magic. Another great use of lighting is through lamps. Arranging little lamps on certain spots can be the perfect lighting for a garden wedding. When planning the lighting, always keep in mind the safety of your guests, and this includes isolating the cables in case any children are present.

Of course, your bridal entourage attire should also blend well with your garden wedding setting. Good colors to go for are pink, celadon green or lavender. As for the material, use fabrics like organza or chiffon.

Now, you may just be wondering what the perfect wedding gown would be in a garden wedding setting. It’s only natural that you would want to look stunning --- and you will, more so if you wear something soft and feminine-looking. Fabrics such as organza or chiffon are ideal. You can also have some romantic floral designs or garden-related accents in your gown to bring out the extra charm. Top this off with pearl bridal jewelry, such as a pair of drop pearl earrings --- that would really look marvelous!

When it comes to food, dishes appropriate to your garden wedding setting include cheese puffs and cucumber sandwiches with lemonade or champagne punch, fresh vegetables and chicken or lamb. Avoid serving dishes covered in rich sauces.

The weather is one of the first things that you should consider when planning a garden wedding. Whichever part of the globe you are in, you can never tell what the weather will be like on a particular day. Perhaps, there is no more unpredictable as the weather, so the best thing to do, then, is to take the necessary precautions. You can, for example, buy an outdoor wedding tent large enough to accommodate your wedding guests, or you can simply rent one. If you cannot find a big one, you can have several smaller tents, instead. The thing is, always come prepared for any eventualities that may arise.

As you can see from these ideas, creativity is essential if you want your garden wedding decor to complement the beauty of the garden. It is better to brainstorm a lot of ideas for decoration, and narrow those down to the ones that you think are best for the wedding. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a nice wedding decoration, in fact decorating a wedding in a garden is easier than other types of weddings, so don’t add too much stuff to the garden.

Just Love this.......

I know this has been done but it is such an effective and simple way to personalise your wedding.
This one is a just a piece of wood cut out with a jigsaw and painted. I am thinking of using old fence palings and making a funky bride and groom directional sign for the ceremony. Its those special little touches everyone is going to remember.

Colours

All to often lately I have been having a sticky beak at all the real weddings I can get my hands on. And I have noticed something. Its all neutral, with only little accents on colour. Girls, dont be afraid to use colour. Bright bold colours go so well with Ivory and White. The picture today is of a bright tropical bouquet, but you can have colour anywhere in your wedding. Oh and remember - your bridesmaids are not part of the decor. Choose colours that will compliment their dresses and your overall theme.

Simply Stunning Weddings

A DIY Manzanita Tree

Absolutley stunning, the Manzanita Tree has scraggly branches that lend themselves well to hanging things like votives, photographs, or cards.

Here’s are some instructions to create your own

These instructions are for creating a base for one Manzanita branch, 18 inches high. This is a really simple and fun project brought to you buy bloomsandbranches.com where you can purchase your manzanita branches for your wedding wishing tree.

Materials used in this demonstration:

One 5 x 5 block of foam
One plastic container (8 inches in diameter, 7 inches tall)
Plaster of Paris
Newspapers
Disposable container for mixing the plaster
The foam block and Plaster of Paris were easily obtained at a craft store. The plastic container was purchased at Spot Light, and is actually a plastic flower pot. You can pretty much use any type of cute pot or planter that matches your theme.

Step 1. After preparing your work area to protect from plaster misshaps, start by inserting the base of your Manzanita tree into the block of foam. Use firm and steady pressure, being careful not to move the branch around. We don’t want to make the hole in the foam oversized. 2 or 3 inches ought to be enough. If something goes wrong, you can always turn the foam over and use the other side.

Step 2. Gently lift the and block and branch together, and place it into the container. Use gentle pressure to seat the block snugly down into the container, making sure it’s level.

Step 3. You can fill the rest of the container with Plaster of Paris, however for this demonstration we rolled up small sections of newspaper and stuffed them neatly around the foam block, leaving about 2 inches of space to the top of the container.

Step 4. Mix your Plaster of Paris according to the instructions on the can. A heavier batch (not too soupy) is easier to work with, and sets faster. Pour the plaster into the container, spreading it evenly over the top of the foam block. Fill to within 1/2 inch of the top. Be advised that a glass container may be a problem, as this material can expand and heat up a bit and could break the glass.

Step 5. That’s it! Set your tree out of the way for about 20 to 30 minutes while the plaster cures. After the plaster has cured, place other materials on top and around the base to conceal the plaster.

Photography

Just a note to all brides, remember that the best light is just on dusk. Your photographer is going to want to take you and your groom out and have some twilight shots - dont forget to include that time in your reception timeline. Especially the spring/ summer brides to be. Oh and how stunning is that shot?
